The Perfect Day

Having a child is surely the most beautifully irrational act that two people in love can commit.
- Bill Cosby, USA

There was once a girl that loves photography and was given her first DSLR for her 2007 Christmas. It took nearly a year for her to figure out the intricacies of its potential. She took many shots of different places, people, often working incognito to get close enough to the true essence of what it is like to photograph and to do it ethically, creatively, sensibly.

Then the girl met a lovely mum by the name Claire and her amazing son, Hugo. A warm friendship blossomed and led to one fine day... or shall we call it the perfect day. Claire and Hugo welcomed the girl to join in a day in their lives, photographing the special relationship, the unshakeable bond between mother and child.

Today Claire was being given the photobook, which was a product of that shoot. She cried tears of happiness that told the raw emotion of a mother's love, concentration, focus, care and belief in her own beautiful baby boy, who was growing up probably too fast. Hugo runs and smiles generously as he takes in every experience in life.

The girl never came this close to making such a positive impact in someone's life. She never truly experienced until today, the feeling of offering something that is small yet sincere, and seen the depth of difference it created. The girl felt honoured and humbled. The girl is thankful.

That girl is me.
